  • Engaging with good practice in terms of disability all but eliminates the risk of legal action and is a more effective motivator of staff than a compliance culture.
  • However, it is worth bearing in mind that there is no ceiling to the compensation that can be awarded under the Equality Act if you fail in your legal duties to a D/deaf or disabled customer or staff member.
  • Building disability confidence and practising using the Social Model of Disability develops skills which can be transferred to other equality issues.
